Privacy Policy

Last Updated: March 15, 2025

At BeamSpark, we respect your privacy. This isn't just something we say because we have to. We actually mean it.

This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you interact with our React Native development education programs. We're based in Taiwan, so we follow local regulations including the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), but more importantly, we follow common sense about treating people's data with respect.

What Information We Collect

We collect different types of information depending on how you engage with us. Some you give us directly, some we gather automatically, and some comes from how you use our website.

Information You Provide Directly

  • Name and contact details when you sign up for course information or register for programs
  • Educational background and experience level when you apply to our courses
  • Payment information when you enroll (though this is processed securely through third-party processors)
  • Communication preferences and any feedback you share with us
  • Portfolio work or code samples if you submit them as part of an application

Information We Collect Automatically

  • Device and browser information when you visit our website
  • IP address and general location data (nothing creepy, just city-level stuff)
  • Pages you visit and how long you spend on them
  • Links you click and content you interact with
  • Technical data like screen resolution and operating system

Note: We don't use invasive tracking or sell your data to advertisers. The automatic data we collect helps us understand how people use our site so we can make it better.

How We Use Your Information

We're pretty straightforward about this. Here's what we do with the information we collect:

  • Process course registrations and manage your enrollment in our programs
  • Communicate with you about course schedules, updates, and relevant announcements
  • Provide technical support and respond to your questions
  • Improve our course content based on student feedback and engagement patterns
  • Send educational resources and updates about React Native development (only if you've opted in)
  • Comply with legal requirements under Taiwan law
  • Protect against fraud and maintain the security of our systems

We don't send spam. If you're getting emails from us, it's because you signed up for something specific or it's directly related to a course you're taking.

Legal Basis for Processing (Taiwan PDPA Compliance)

Under Taiwan's Personal Data Protection Act, we need a legitimate reason to process your personal data. Here are ours:

  • Consent: You've explicitly agreed to let us use your information for specific purposes
  • Contract Performance: We need your data to deliver the educational services you've signed up for
  • Legal Obligation: Sometimes we're required by Taiwan law to keep certain records
  • Legitimate Interest: We have valid business reasons that don't override your privacy rights

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We don't sell your information. Period. But we do work with some third-party services to run our business effectively:

Service Providers We Use

  • Payment Processors: For handling course fees securely
  • Email Service Providers: For sending course updates and educational content
  • Cloud Storage Services: For storing course materials and backups
  • Analytics Tools: For understanding website usage patterns

All these providers are contractually required to protect your data and can only use it for the specific services they provide to us. We pick vendors who take security seriously.

International Transfers: Some of our service providers are based outside Taiwan. When we transfer data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information according to Taiwan's PDPA requirements.

Your Rights and How to Exercise Them

Under Taiwan law, you have specific rights regarding your personal data. We take these seriously and make it easy for you to exercise them:

Your Rights Include

  • Right to Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to Correction: Ask us to fix inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Right to Deletion: Request that we delete your data (with some legal exceptions)
  • Right to Restrict Processing: Limit how we use your information
  • Right to Data Portability: Get your data in a format you can transfer elsewhere
  • Right to Object: Stop us from processing your data for certain purposes
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: Change your mind about permissions you've given us

How to Make a Request

Email us at contact@beamspark.life with your request. We'll respond within 15 days as required by Taiwan law. You'll need to verify your identity before we can process certain requests, which is standard practice to protect your security.

If you're not satisfied with how we've handled your request, you have the right to file a complaint with Taiwan's National Development Council or other relevant regulatory authorities.

Data Security and Protection

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Here's what that means in practice:

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all data transmission
  • Secure password protection with industry-standard hashing
  • Regular security audits and updates to our systems
  • Limited access to personal data within our team (only those who need it for their work)
  • Secure backup systems with encryption
  • Staff training on data protection practices

That said, no system is 100% secure. We do our best, but we can't guarantee absolute security. If we ever experience a data breach that affects your information, we'll notify you promptly as required by Taiwan law.

Data Retention and Deletion

We don't keep your data forever. Here's our approach:

  • Active Student Data: Kept for the duration of your enrollment plus one year after completion
  • Financial Records: Retained for seven years as required by Taiwan tax law
  • Marketing Communications: Kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion
  • Website Analytics: Aggregated and anonymized after 24 months
  • Support Inquiries: Deleted after three years unless part of an active issue

When we delete data, we really delete it. Not just from active systems but from backups too (though this can take up to 90 days for backup systems).

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our website uses cookies. These are small files stored on your device that help the site work properly and give us insights into usage patterns.

Types of Cookies We Use

  • Essential Cookies: Required for basic site functionality
  • Analytics Cookies: Help us understand how people use our site
  • Preference Cookies: Remember your settings and choices

You can control cookies through your browser settings, but blocking essential cookies might affect site functionality. Most browsers let you manage cookies individually, so you can block tracking cookies while keeping functional ones.

Children's Privacy

Our courses are designed for adults and professionals. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16 years old. If you're under 16, please don't provide us with personal information.

If we discover we've accidentally collected data from someone under 16, we'll delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe we might have information about a minor should contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We update this policy occasionally as our practices evolve or laws change. When we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email or through a prominent notice on our website.

The "Last Updated" date at the top tells you when we last modified this policy. We encourage you to review it periodically, especially before starting a new course with us.

Taiwan-Specific Provisions

As a company operating in Taiwan, we comply with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). This includes:

  • Obtaining proper consent before collecting sensitive personal data
  • Notifying you of collection purposes before gathering information
  • Responding to data access requests within 15 days
  • Maintaining appropriate security measures for data protection
  • Reporting data breaches to authorities when required

Our data protection practices meet or exceed Taiwan regulatory requirements. If you have questions about how Taiwan law applies to your data, feel free to ask.
